Intuitive Controls Mod for Dragon Age 2 [Discontinued]

Update: Discontinued. No longer available.

This time I'm publishing a mod that fixes the controls and camera of the game Dragon Age 2. It should work with all versions and DLC (including old versions). The documentation and download information can be found in its separate page, here.

Technically it's very different but its gameplay design is the same as the mod version for Dragon Age Origins. Here are some tips to help new users:
  • Instead of always clicking, click-hold-release. This allows you to make small last-moment adjustments and see contextual information about the target (e.g. area radius the spell/ability will affect). It also helps when opening chests and talking to people.
  • The default attack takes some cues from where the camera is centered, so most of the time you can just keep the crosshair pointed to a relevant area and initiate the default attack to target it.
  • When using abilities that target a single enemy you can either attack first to select the target and then activate the ability, or activate the ability first and then select the target with Left-Click.
  • In the beginning use Left-Shift a lot until you get comfortable. With practice you can achieve the same results with the quickslot keys and mouse clicking.

Feel free to leave your feedback in the comments. Without feedback I have to assume people aren't interested and no improvements will be made.

  1. You probably don't even look at this anymore but i was wondering why i get a weird glitch where it crashes but only in Fullscreen mode when i install this, i tried deleting and fullscreen ran fine.

  2. Hi. Nobody reported that problem before. It may be caused by an hidden overlay (e.g. Origin overlay or GPU overclocking tool). I have no control over 3rd-party applications but otherwise I should be able to fix it quickly with proper information (OS/software details to reproduce the problem).

In any case the game and mod support Windowed mode well.

  3. Hey posted this on here as well as Im not sure if you still check comments on your mod here.
    https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage2/mods/4146/?

"Not really sure if bug or intended however I have never seen the center reticle as shown in pictures here my mouse simply disappears with nothing replacing it however the camera works as intended so I've simply been playing without the center target and been clicking in the general area I believe my mouse would be in, in order to play with you're mod, Im assuming the picture above showing a npc interaction with your mod means we no longer have to choose dialogue options using the mouse HOWEVER my mouse Finally appears the moment a dialogue is initiated.

Running win 7 fully updated game all dlc using directx11, medium settings 1366 x 768 rez 30-50fps on average, I found it odd as I have origins ultimate edition with you're mod and the center reticle appears as intended and all works as pictures shown in that game.

    Any Advice?"

    1. Hi. You should be seeing a crosshair when playing except when you press Left-Shift or Left/Right mouse click (without releasing, because when you release the key/button it resumes the default crosshair mode). In menus/cutscenes the mod gets out of the way and lets the game work as usual.

The suggestions I can give that may help would be to make sure you don't have any overlay enabled (for example Origin overlay or from overclocking tools). You can also try different graphics options to see if that makes a difference (resolution, windowed, etc).

It's also possible your card doesn't support the features needed to draw the crosshair properly, but I would need more information about the GPU to determine this.
